Sparks
It's been said that every fire begins with a spark. In theory, at least. Sparks are generally seen as the catalyst, the tipping point, if you will, the threshold where matter undergoes a chemical reaction and burns. The spark is what ignites a flame, that pushes a situation off of a cliff and (in a sense) out of control.
That, in a sense, is the intended function of this post. You have to start somewhere, and if you don't start at all, you will never get anywhere. Especially if you take into account the force of inertia and recognize how difficult it is to begin moving. Starting is the hard part. Moving afterwards, I've always found, is so much easier.
So let this post, this spark of inspiration (perhaps), force the writer out of his comfort zone and into that zone of the "other", allowing him to capture thoughts with the medium of words on a screen. If the flames of thought do indeed catch onto something substantial, then this spark has accomplished its mission - to aid, if nothing else, the writer in his quest to master the wild animal that is rhetoric.
